This disc sounds wonderful. It is also completely boring. One of my conducting teachers called concerts like this one a mass grave.

Michael Feinstein's singing is lovely as usual. The arrangements are completely overblown and don't work. Most problematic is that the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra cannot swing. They sound like Russians playing jazz. That really does not work. There was a bitter sweet joke about something like this ... more |

BRAVO!!!
Levine does it again with the German Requiem. His Chicago Symphony recording for RCA in the early days of RBCD was exciting, lyrical and wonderful, all in the right places, as were his CSO performances of Brahms symphonies.
