This is probably the best version of Thriller in existence. The production on the album is wonderful, hands down. This is clearly a direct DSD recording of the original master. The engineer who recorded this knew what he was doing, especially considering it was done in 1965. The band sounds like they are playing in your living room. The actual songs on the album are dynamite. The sonics are kind of bad, though. As with a lot of other early Sony releases, the treble is hot and splashy. The midrange is kind of grainy, too. There is still some benefit to the DSD mastering, but I'd really like to see Analogue Production or Mobile ... more |

As with a lot of the early Sony SACD discs, this one is certainly not the greatest. The treble is rather hot and the midrange is a bit on the grainy side. That aside, it is a bit of an upgrade from the CD and LP versions. I think this album has the potential to really shine, but I don't know that ... more |

Probably the definitive version of the album, this release is great. Tonally, it is very well balanced - very nice treble extension without being overbearing. No midrange peaks/dips, as well an an even/taught bass, evident in the bass and drums. Wonderful rendering of space and fine detail too. |
