This release is certainly an upgrade from CD releases. You'll get the benefits of DSD mastering - better "air" separation of the instruments. This album is a tricky one to get right. In fact, I don't know there exists a version that I would consider satisfactory. If this is a straight rip of the master tape - it's easy to see why. For ages, the only decent way to listen to Pet Sounds was mono, as no true stereo mix existed. The best mono version I ever found was the Audio Fidelity HDCD mastered by Steve Hoffman.

Pros: Spectrum analyzer confirms this is a DSD transfer and thus sounds a bit more "transparent" than The standard CD.
Cons: I'm pretty sure the album was taken from the LP cutting tape, not the original session master. The mix is really bright - it's headache inducing.

The legendary Bob Ludwig of Gateway mastering did this project. He did a great job getting EQ/tonal balance just right on every track - even bassline and proportionate high end sheen.
