One of the best Doobie albums done by mo-fi. Great punch, clean highs, definition and separation of instruments. Downsides? It's a bright in some tracks and the low (sub 60hz) bass need to be brought up a bit. |

This is my least favorite of all the Doobie Brothers albums, which generally sound amazing. Simply, the midange is just too peaky/shouty and the mix doesn't have that "separated insturment" soundtage easily heard on their other albums. |

As verified on a spectrogram, this is indeed an up conversion of the original 44.1/16 PCM. Everything has that early digital PCM "edge" and lack of air to it. This version is also fairly brickwalled. Sonically, this whoops every CD and LP version I've heard to date. No question that this was taken from the original master tape. Very low tape hiss, wonderful rendering of space and fine detail in ... more |
