I have my doubts about this music. Yeah, yeah, yeah....I know it's Jobim. But this is instrumental. And I am simply not sure I like orchestral jazz/bossa nova. In my opinion this is the weakest of the three discs I have by The Great Jazz Trio (See my other reviews here). To my mind the playing is too tame and at times even timid, especially on the first 5 tracks. The bass and drum solo's on 'Satin Doll' don't work I think. Frankly, they kill what should be ... more |

Let me repeat that this JSACD contains the more uptempo part from Miles Davis' February 12, 1964, concert. The ballads are on "My Funny Valentine" which I reviewed on sa-cd.net as well. Every single standard here you can find on the Miles studio abums where they are typically played more slowly. So ... more |
