This recording was actually the very first SACD that I bought,more than three years ago.And after reading the raving review of Volodos's most recent Tchaikowsky concerto also on Sony and with the same orchestra,I found no reviews here as yet, of this one, only equally raving views on Amazon .com.The ... more

I already have three other SACDs in this series; the London ,the Pastoral and the 6th and 8th and like them all very much.I like the performance here too,but must agree with Nucleena that there is some hardness and lack of resolution on massed strings especially.I played this SACD only minutes after ... more

This is my first Philips classics orchestral SACD and I can only agree with the two other reviews here.This is a fantastic record.It is very well recorded with easily the best recorded violin I´ve ever heard in any digital format. Like the Beethoven symphonies that i reviewed earlier today,these Schumann symphonies where recorded in analogue sound.These recordings were made more than thirty years ago.
