Do I or anyone else with this work already in their collection really need this one too? My answer is YES, YES, YES!!! This disc makes an exiting start indeed, for BIS's first Beethoven symphony series. Not only is the recording very good indeed.But that is almost a given with this label. Here comes another,simply stunning, vintage recording.Like the Mercury Firebird this is definitely a Desert Island Disc.Not only does it once and for all, prove that all you need to record a big symphony orchestra realistically, is a good analogue tape recorder and TWO microphones. Wow!!!This recording of Schostakovich's elegic and brutal and awesome 11th Symphony is another stunning example of high-res DSD technology at its very best!
