Celebidache2000 I also have many of these. In my original post (#1) I said most of the latin music on SACD is jazz and classical but there was almost no "POP" latin music on SACD. Your new list is mostly latin jazz with a little latin classical. In post #19 I gave a link to one of my favorite latin popular music groups.

Mambo, salsa, tango, cumbia, flamenco, and samba (which is 99% of the titles I listed) are all latin "popular" genres.

Celebidache2000 I mean "Popular" as in "Latin Pop"

The mambo, salsa, tango, cumbia, flamenco, and samba styles you listed are done in the jazz and classical vein, I have plenty of those.

I am talking about REAL Latin Pop which mixes "pop" with a wide variety of Latin American or Iberian rhythms such as salsa, samba, norteña, merengue, banda, tex-mex, flamenco, tango, reggaeton, vallenato, and reggae. Most with vocals in the native language, the music one would hear on the radio south of the border.

Did you listen to the sample I provided? I can provide others.

I told you there was nothing :)

Get the Joao Gilberto on SHM-SACD.

I played it last night and its been very well mastered and will satisfy detail addicts who can listen to his chair creak and lips smacking ;)

Daniel.

I think I'm terrible at recognising various musical genre, but thankfully have the DVD-A of Buena Vista Social Club. I find this absolutely beautiful, both in terms of the music and the way it's played - and the audio fidelity/mix.

What music is available on SACD that would be most similar to the Buena Vista Social Club - and how is this type of latin music genre categorised?

The following SACD titles contain music in the same vein as the Buena Vista Social Club:

Poncho Sanchez: Conga Blue

Mongo Santamaria: Live at Jazz Alley

Mongo Santamaria: Mambo Mongo

Poncho Sanchez: Out of Sight!

Paquito D'Rivera: Tropicana Nights

Paquito D'Rivera: Portraits of Cuba

The Conga Kings: Jazz Descargas

Gerardo Rosales: La Salsa es mi Vida

There's more Latin jazz/pop than bebop on SACD? I feel dated.

Hello,

Thanks for the bigger list... it's still really small really... when you take into account.....

And, I'm with Teresa, - would be looking for something a bit more contemporary, - like Ojos De Brujo. Ojos de Brujo redbook recordings are pretty decent though....

Paquito de Rivera on Chesky, (in my opinion), {like just about all Chesky artists}, is crap. YMMV
