Ubertrout the 8 MFSL's were released some time ago, the Analogue Productions is a brand new release.

I am very pleased with this development but the cynic in me says April 1st hope its not a joke, discounting that I wonder about the motives of this welcome development. If EMI have realised that the majority of the Japanese pressed discs were being sold outside of Japan and that people around the world were prepared to pay the increased costs of postage, taxes custom duties etc (which EMI would not be getting) Perhaps some smart suit said we if can make them more available in other domestic markets and charge less than the imports but still at high a price we will up our profits. I also wonder what they will be releasing if they are a rehash of the Japanese discs they may not sell as many. People will already own them and not buy resulting in a lack of sales and EMI pulling the plug on this venture which deserves to succeed, maybe it will force others to think their SACD release strategy

April release dates have always worried me since an experience I had while working for Decca in the 1970's. We had a young marketing guy whose job was to send out release material to magazines who would would then usually request live copies to review. The young man prepared a press release for a 'newly found' piano concerto from a major romantic composer. The composition, of course, did not exist. No harm in a little fun I guess. The release date was - you've guessed it - April 1st. The problem was that a few months later a full review of the LP was published in a prestigious if not musical magazine! Oops!
I certainly hope my guy hasn't moved on to EMI!

I'm currently holding off ordering more of the japanese EMI SACDs, which won't go OOP that quickly. I'm looking forward to see what will be happening in April. Many non-EMI SACDs to buy in the meantime.

If the discs are priced at less than the imports I would certainly consider a few more titles than the three I have bought particularly the multi-disc sets.

Personally I'm doubtful that EMI will initially release titles other than those already available in Japan. I mean why would they if they can first test the market's enthusiasm with the remasters they already have on hand. (And they did mention just 10 initially.)

Having said that, if they ever resurrect more titles from their catalog I'd like to see Kempe's 1963 recording of Lohengrin.

This is great news, but I won't be happy until EMI releases the Previn/LSO Shostakovich 8th from 1973 on SACD. Don't remember whether it was an original quad release or not, but the time certainly was right...

Not sure if I have heard that exact recording ... but the Previn Shosti's I have heard were a bit boring and bland when compared to Russian Melodiya recordings with Rozhdestvensky. I remember being quite surprised at how tame Previn was.

As an aside, when I was a child, I thought April Fool's was silly and asinine. As an adult, I find it even more so. I can't believe that fellow adults still find it necessary to pull pranks. I just don't get it.

In any case, I'm confident EMI wouldn't be doing so here, and even if they are releasing those already released in Japan, it's magnificent news.

Agreed. Not sure this is the best Shostakovich 8 there is but it was the first good one I heard and, so far, none has surpassed it. Perhaps I imprinted on it but a mch SACD would be very warmly received by me.
