Johan Bridger: Percussion        (4 of 4 found this review helpful)
  November 1, 2009

I had never heard of Johan Bridger until I came across a copy of this in my local libary of all places. Realising that it was an SACD I auditioned the copy I borrowed. Firstly the music on the disc is very recent the earliest work was composed as far back as 1977 the most recent 2004!!! The first ... more
Carpenters: The Singles 1969-1981        (5 of 5 found this review helpful)
  May 26, 2009

Compilation albums are always difficult to assess simply because it is in the nature of the finalised disc to to have its tracks possibly orginate in different studios, with different engineers etc. With the Carpenters however consistency is the keyword. They have a uniformity of sound across all of ... more

This is one of THE albums of the 80's with a top notch production ,good songs and this was in my opinon when Jacko was on top of his game before he got the reputation for outright eccentricity. It should have and could have been an outstanding SACD. So what went wrong.Generally speaking the other ... more

I'll start with the physical description, the version I picked up is a single layer Stereo/multichannel none hybrid disc. This site lists it as a double hybrid disc. Whether it has been reissued or this site is in error I don't know but anyone intrested in purchasing this be aware that there is a ... more

This seminal album needs no introduction or review. There are legions of fans out there years later who still listen to it on a regular basis and know its complex structure note for note. It has been extensivly analyised and broken down and anything that could possibly have been said has been said. ... more

First time I visited my local HMV since the news of administration became public, this time I looked at it through the critical eyes of a CD purchaser. Of the total floor space less than 25% was devoted to music of any genre, heavy on chart and cheap offers very little in any specialist music genre, Like aoqd22 I found it packed with people buying ... more

My local independent B&M store is concerned by the demise of HMV, basically he told me that HMV accounts for between 25/30% of sales and when they go it places the distribution chain at risk similar to what happened when woolworth went. He is worried about his suppliers going down and taking his business with it. ... more
