Why has this wonderful symphony been so obscure, until today? This is a gigantic, demonically charged work of the utmost mastery. For this I have no reservation and although there are splendid recordings of these works, this is a splendid example of Vox's miracle stuff at its best. Highly recomended to all lovers of reference recordings, classical music and the art of bringing the real thing (the music hall) to our house. |

I agree with both reviews. This is certainly awesome stuff and clearly a winner as far as SACD is concerned. We have an understanding conductor, a highly responsive orchestra and a exceedingly realistic and masterful recording. But... for those with good Universal Players (such as Denon DVD-3910) ... more |

I still remember and cherish the first Decca recordings of SFSO with Blomstedt (the Strauss tone poems) that enthralled music lovers with the splendid playing of the orchestra and the wonderful Decca recordings.

I totally agree with the previous review. This is Tchaikovsky conducting of real stature and both the symphony and Romeo and Juliet unfold naturally and dramatically, while the recording does perfect justice to Fischer's splendid view of the works and to the wonderful playing and tone colour of this ... more |
