Awesome performance with an LSO that play like angels, with great energy, feeling and wonderfully crisp ensemble. At last Telarc has remerbered the old glorious days of super sound and super performances from Cincinatii Pops and Erich Kunzel. This is a live recording in Vienna and it clearly shows the problems of recording live in that otherwise great hall. The sound is somewhat opaque and with a degree of harshness in the upper register. The performance is certainly magnetic and demonically driven, but you have to go back to Mravinsky ... more

This is so good I had to go back to my old Mravinsky DG CD's to be absolutely certain that I'm not fooling myself. And I wasn't. The recording is up to the usual BIS standards and much better, clearer and more full bodied than for the 6th symphony in the same series. The orchestra play like angels ... more

We have come to expect only the best from Savall and his musicians and this is no exception. Splendid playing and wonderful 24/96 PCM recording, expertly transferred to DSD are this disc's characteristics. If only this gem war recorded in surround!
