Yes this is a trully magnificent disc with splendid sound and performances of white hot intensity that will send shivers down your spine. You have to go back to Muti's exemplary performances (for EMI) to find so distinguished performances of these two masterpieces. A desert island disc. |

I surely disagree with the other reviews. The recordings and performances clearly reflect the small scale of this approach, and if you see the pictures of the stage on the leaflet, you see that we are talking about a very small orchestra indeed. This is by far the best Beethoven 7th on SACD (the other good one is also by Kleiber), a live recording of astonishing energy and beauty.
