This is the only "Concerto for Orchestra" you'll ever need. Performance and sound is fabulous, and the SACD reissue sounds like it was made yesterday. WOW is the only word that describes the way Reiner conducts Bartok and the way RCA engineers recorded the Chicago SO!

Great recordings and performances (especially the live ones). The Dallas SO has always been a splendid orchestra and here they play like angels, while Litton proves once again, that he is a true "Rachmaninov conductor" that really probes the depths of these wonderful works. The performances are hard to fault and here there can be heard in the best possible light. But there are annoying dropouts in the last tracks of Zarathustra and in Hero's Life. It appears that the master tape was not perfectly preserved and this disc is recommended only to Reiner and Living Stereo ... more

This is one of the true glories of the gramophone. A performance of Beethoven's Pastoral symphony that speaks with the true voice of the composer and cannot be faulted in any way. This is certainly a devinely good performance and an extremely well thought out reading of the symphony, and needless to say Harnoncourt understands Bruckner better than most conductors.
