On first listen--Wow! This is what a 1958-era stereo recording should sound like on SACD! The horns are crisp and clear, the bass has huge resonance and the drums are panned in stereo! This is quite an odd LP, in a musical sense. The pieces have little or nothing to do with traditional Spanish music, save for "Solea". This one's a real treat--big, punchy stereo sound with smooth treble. CCR made the jump to 16-track for this album, and you can really hear it in the drum sound, with the rack & floor toms panned across the soundstage. I know others have given this release glowing reviews, but I find it to be a disappointment. Yes, the SACD treatment does give Ms. Mann's vocals a fair bit more depth and detail, but the instrumental tracks all sound about the same as on the redbook CD, which leads me to believe they were recorded ... more
