I have to disagree with the other reviews, for only one reason: digital compression. I did a back-to-back comparison with the MoFi SACD of Hot Buttered Soul, and the difference was so obvious--I could crank up the volume on "Soul" no problem at all, smooth as silk. This is one well-recorded album. Same studio (for 7 of the 8 cuts) as It's Only Rock & Roll, but the difference between the two albums is night & day. This is the first album the Stones did without ace producer Jimmy Miller, and it shows. Most of the other reviews that I've seen peg this SHM-SACD as "good", but after listening to it on my Sennheiser HD600 headphones, I think this is the definitive Stones hi-rez release. An outtakes album? Sure, but a top-notch one mixed by Bob Clearmountain. Veteran audiophiles will know what to expect--crystal clear sound, crisp high end, bass but not too deep, 1980s reverb, but not too extreme.
