This first SACD outing by the Yellowjackets on Heads Up could be called the Yellowjackets meet DMP or the Yellowjackets meet Flim and the BB's. Just relistened to this disc in 2ch and MCH after a long while. Sorry, the 2ch mix sounds better. The MCH on this is a bit of a kluge and the bass is just way over done. Title says it all. It's heavy, it's melodic, it's electronic in parts (but nothing like Engines), it's beautiful (to these ears). Fairly futuristic electric guitar instrumental music. Yes, that's it. Jorma is back and he is on SACD, multichannel even. Great musicians giving a flawless performance of country blues meets back porch dawg music. Surround sound mix is better than just OK. Also my first Keb Mo. Listened to it straight through twice on the original Sony 777. The sound on this 2ch disc is great. Infectious tunes. Great performance. Very good sonics. Not your typical blues artist or sound. Fresh air blues? |
