Another great MCH SACD from the folks at CONCORD. This disc is pure MELLOW. Mellow jazz instead of SMOOTH jazz. Another jazz classic must have for the SACDer. This one and Mingus, Mingus, Mingus are desert island discs for sure. Upbeat and musical. An interesting look at where jazz was headed in 1966. Improvisational to say the least. Some would call it fusion but we used to call it prog for progressive. This review is based on the original 2ch SACD. While this is a landmark recording of timeless music, it doesn't demonstrate the depth and resolution of SACD like it should. There are glitches and distortions here that do not show up on my Sony Gold SBM longbox disc. I was disappointed with my copy ... more |

Mighty Sam on SACD is something else. This is a best of compilation that smokes. Gospel tinged blues and r&b. Incredibly tight backing band. Excellent sonics. A must have SACD if you dig the blues. This is one to play for your friends to show them what SACD sounds like. |
