Well, as a long time fan of Alfred Brendel (especially when he plays Beethoven) I bought this SACD. As much as I enjoy his Beethoven, I like his Mozart as well, as he shows an excellent knowledge of the music. I am totally stunned by this recording, and I hesitate to call this abomination an SACD. I cannot believe that any serious recording engineer, producer, or recording executive would let something like this be released. At first, I was never planning on buying any single layer SACDs, as it was going to be some time before I bought my first SACD player and I did not want a disc that I could not play in the car. I am a huge fan of the MTT/SFSO Mahler cycle, and I have all 6 recordings so far. I find this SACD to be superb in all aspects, in air, imaging, sound quality. I too also have the RCOA/Chailly Mahler 9 on Decca, though that SACD is a PCM recording and not a DSD like the MTT is. Thus, the sound is ... more |

This is my final SACD with Phillips/Gergiev/Kirov....after their dismal recording effort with "Scheherazade" with Gergiev and Kirov (that went back to the store) I figured I would never buy another combo like this.
