Performance:   Sonics:
Some say Oscar Peterson said this was his best. Vol. IV is about solo piano, but one could be forgiven at times to think that there are multiple players and an entire rhythm section at work. And those ballads. They are absolutely beautiful. Nice moment: the end of Bye Bye Blackbird...

Listening, completely spellbound, throughout the ballad 'I Should Care'. The strummed chord at the end reminds me of something similar he did on his excellent album "Nigerian Marketplace" or was it at a North Sea Jazz concert? I have to check my OP collection.

The piano on this SACD is nice and weighty with a warm sound, but it seems at times somewhat unnaturally stretched in my system, or diffuse. It's different than on "Mellow Mood", Vol.V. Perhaps because the other version is a trio and this is solo piano. Perhaps because I listened to my vinyl version of Mellow Mood in between. The recording technique may play a role here. Again I give it four stars. Perhaps over time as I play these SACD's multiple times I will adjust the stars to a 5 rating. These are very good recordings - producing an analog and luxurious sound. There are not many solo pianists that can hold my attention - I tend not to like solo piano that much. OP is the exception to the rule.
