Oh my what wonderful playing and music we have here. There are actually 4 quartets on this disc, as Quartet No. 10 is the lead piece. The sound of these 1974/5 recordings is excellent, maybe a little on the warm side, but oh so excellent sounding.

Another fine disc from the Netherlands Bach Society. This is a disc of North German church music. It doesn't necessarily jump out at you like the Christmas Oratorio. This has always been my favorite of the Miles/Gil Evans discs. The cd was the one of the box set that got a LOT of play. And now in JSACD sound it is just stunning!!!
Though Sketches of Spain has garnered more renown thru the years, Miles Ahead is just as deserving.

OH WOW OH WOW OH WOW
This is my first JSACD, though I do have some from 88's, and the sound and music here is just simply the best on sacd I've encountered yet. This seems to be a real notch above the USA sacd's, and even many of the classical discs. I'll be in the poor house soon as I get ready to ... more |
