Splendid disc in every way - great sound, wonderful playing, and a complete concert type program. I wish more discs were put together this way with the selections in about the same order as one would get at a concert, first an overture, then a symphony, then a couple concertos, and another symphony ... more |

If you like Artur Rubinstein's Chopin, then this is a disc to get.
The sound here is slightly better than that on the Rubinstein Collection, but still better. Can only hope for more Chopin here in the future. |

Great historical performance of the Tchaikovsky Concerto. Does anyone remember that Van Cliburn had a ticker tape parade in NYC after winning the Tchaikovsky Competition, back when classical music "mattered" more than it does now.
The sound of this disc however is rather ordinary, even in this SACD. ... more |

Wonderful recording and sound. It sounds like it was just done yesterday! If you only have one copy of the Concerto for Orchestra, this is the one. There is also the new, and very fine, Hungaroton release by Zoltan Kocsis. But the Reiner disc just exudes the word, classic.

This is an excellent rendition of my favorite Tchaikovsky symphony. For years I have listened to the Mariss Jansons disc with the Oslo Philharmonic. The Jarvi disc compares quite favorably.
