WOW, this is a stunner! I have long enjoyed the Shostakovich Symphony No. 8. This is music that has a lot of dynamic contrasts, and the ability to present a very dynamic recording. After the wonderful music on the Lyrinx set of the Mozart Quintets, I was eager to listen to another Lyrinx disc. So I decided to give this one a go. I tend to agree with Nick in his review of this disc. The music and playing are wonderful. It is an excellent rendition of this most wonderful of symphonies. What a fine set of recorded music these three discs represent!!!! The playing is top notch, as is the recording. I'd have to say that I enjoyed this recording more than Chris. I also listen to this on a full system, rather than on headphones. I have a similar headphone system to Chris, and it's nice for quiet and private listening, but I find that orchestra recordings always sound better on a full system where ... more
