a lovely disc, very fresh and unpretentious in spirit. sonically it's very good - a clear, uncluttered ambience, with good tonal fidelity to the instruments.
to be hypercritical there's just a TOUCH of smearing of the clarinet's instrumental image (especially in its warm middle range), probably ... more |

i've only heard RBCD stereo, unfortunately, so just a quick line to report that artistically these are outstanding performances, very clear textured and bubbling with energy. i enjoyed them a great deal. |

now this is going to sound SO picky.... - but there's a sense in which the singing on these discs is just a little TOO squeaky-clean for its own good. it's as close to perfect technically as you're likely to hear, but as so often when technical perfection is aimed at something else is missing. call ... more |

jdaniel@jps.net makes an important point at the end of his review - most of the organ sound in the multichannel mix comes from the rears, so you really need speakers which closely match your front pair. if they're markedly smaller or inferior you'll not get the effect intended.
