i'd second J.B.'s review, although i personally feel that nagano's recording really does put rattle's DECISIVELY in the shade. for one thing the orchestral playing is a lot better (the CBSO is a seriously overrated orchestra, especially by UK critics), and i also prefer the choral singing. this ... more

gosh, well it just goes to show how different people using different equipment react to the same recording - i personally found these discs the VERY WORST i have yet encountered in terms of multichannel sound. the big problem is the huge, untamed amount of resonance captured in the monastic ... more

nickc is unfortunately absolutely spot-on in his judgements - artistically these are magnificent performances, sonically they are a major let-down. 4.0 (it's not even good 4.0) is definitely a major drawback here - it's hard to get a clear focus on exactly where the piano is without a centre ... more
