A very boring performance of one of the most beautiful symphonies ever.

What a forgettable performance this is. Everyone sounds like they're asleep. The conception of the music does not sound like Mahler, and nothing is played or sung with any heart or lyrical feeling. Wait for a better one to come out. |

My goodness, the sound on this SACD is so good! I love the way the jazz orchestra was captured here. You will hear a lot of detail everywhere.
For fans of this piece, you will be annoyed with the spoken dialog (sounds like they were on prozac), and maybe you'll be annoyed with the operatic ... more |

I had great expectations for this recording. I thought for sure that SACD would unlock the details from the recording masters of this performance, but no dice. This is one of the most enjoyable soundtracks in recent years for me. The lyricism of the romantic passages is very evocative and beautiful, and lends itself to be easily enjoyed outside the context of the movie.
