These are extraordinary performances, luckily caught in extremely fine multi-channel sound. To realize this quality took me more than one audition for at first I did not play the thing LOUD enough! I love it when the sound pressure levels in my listening room seem to approach those of my favorite ... more |

I really like this one, principally because the performance of the Franck is so dramatic! With electric, thrusting phrasing, and a real forward impetus, I personally think this performance shellacs such perennial favorites as the Monteux. We had just come home from Boston for a Saturday night concert in Symphony Hall where Julia Fischer and the Boston Symphony played the Sibelius concerto. PN said this disc should be given 6 stars out of 5 for both sound and performance. I agree. This, surely, is the most life-like chamber music recording I own. I think it is also the most inspired performance of any chamber music I ever heard.
