I bought this SACD to see how it would hold up against the fabulous Telarc with Robert Spano. Well, it was an interesting shoot out.

Well, the quest for a killer SACD of Vivaldi's "4 Seasons" goes on. This recording is making me wonder if there is some unwritten rule that states that whenever one is recording string chamber music, every engineer needs to get the mikes as close to the ensemble as possible. WOW,
I had to jump through hoops to get this SACD, and was it ever worth it!!!! I am not normally a person who buys solo woodwind music, though I can easily take oboe or bassoon over solo flute or clarinet.

I am one of those bizarre classical lovers who buys multiple recordings of pieces I like, and Shostakovich's 7th Symphony is one of those pieces I love dearly!!

I am going to chime in on this one as well.....
Paavo Jarvi is starting to leave me cold....I cannot understand what is going on here, but this performance is cold, dull, and uninspiring...period.
I have heard many different recordings of these pieces, and the offerings here are simply not on par ... more |
