I have become a big fan of the Atlanta Symphony. I remember hearing them as only a fairly good orchestra under Robert Shaw (no disrespect, but he was a better CHORAL conductor than he was as a symphony conductor). To be honest, I have never been a real fan of period performances. WOW,
After listening to this SACD on a number of different systems, I have to say very cool!!!! This SACD, recorded in the magnificent Tabernacle (home of that killer organ and also home of world class acoustics) makes all previous recording efforts of a great choir just top notch.

Sorry, but this is a major disappointment. I have listened to this recording for more than 7 weeks and cannot get into it. There is little soundstage and is miked too close. What bothers me most is Mr. Elder's rendition of "Venus". Sorry, but the difference between Adagio and Andante is no way as ... more |
