Ok, this one isn't easy to find and I had to order it from the Label's website from Germany. Shipping cost as much as the disc, but I'm very happy with this purchase. These are two of the early Twentieth Century's slush pump everything but the kitchen sink tone poems.
Certainly there are alternatives for the Strauss Alpine Symphony, but not for the Scriabin and the latter is why I ordered this as it's the only version on SACD currently. The opening of the Scrabin is very quiet and the flute and violin just seem to float out in space but soon the climaxes come (and come again and again!). The hall (Lubeck) must be somewhat large because there is a wonderful sense of space (heard in 5.0 multichannel) with a wide spread feel to the orchestra up in front. It's kind of like Technicolor in sound! Which is of course why you buy discs like this. The playing as far as I can tell is first rate and I like the interpretations of both pieces.
The Strauss here is competative at least with the other SACD version I own (Jonas Alber with the Staatsorchester Braunschweig) which I think also got good reviews earlier. Again the sound adds to the enjoyment of the piece as Strauss throws in everying including a wind machine.
So I do recommend this one highly, it's just not easy to find (at least in the States).
