This SACD fills an important gap, concerning Scriabin's Poeme and enters a crucially crowded field of many recent Alpines. But is Lubeck PO up to the task? Can anybody who owns previous instalments in this series share an impression of Musicaphon's sound in general and Lubeck PO in particular? First of all I mean their Stravinsky and Honegger discs.

Yes, I'm extremely curious about this one too: what an embarrassment of oozing riches: the Alpine and Scriabin's Poem. Luckily, IMHO we've got the best Alpine of all time on SACD: Luisi's. I obsess over the "Poem," and have found none more voluptuous than Sinopoli's with the NYPO in the best possible sound for DGG redbook years. Yes, I know...but it's better than Stokowski's.

It is interesting that the series seems to be Strauss tone poems coupled with other composers like Honegger and Scriabin. I would be very interested in a formal review of some of the discs in this series, including sonics. If the ASZ is not bad, I would consider jumping in.

Just got mine from Germany.
Live performances (applause only at end of disc does not overlap).
I like the conductor's integrated approach to the Scriabin.
Not what I am accustomed to hearing on some RBCD and LP, which have
tended towards a concerto for trumpet and large bell.
As for the Strauss, no complaints, can join the other 6 I have on SACD
without apologies.
Nice "edge" on lower brass.
Plenty of organ pedal in both works, clearly audible during the "storm" sequence
in the Strauss. (Not qualified to tell whether real or electronic.)
Generous 76 minutes on disc.
It's all there from top to bottom.
So, turn it up and let 'er rip.
(one minus, just 2 track numbers.)

Not to sidetrack from Scriabin's piece in any waybut the recent LSO Live Alpine is also excellent and a close call indeed v's Luisi.
One would buy this disc on the merit of le Poeme alone, methinks.
Never bought this label before so what format do they use to record?

Norm, what does it say in the booklet about recording? Is it high res DSD or 96+ kHz?

To these ears this SACD sounds like DSD. But recording itself is simply horrible, totally urealistic soundstage, crucially low-level, climaxes are proper floor-and-wall shakers, perfomances are merely competent, not so special. Poor impressions, so not recommended.
