This album is about 30 years old (1973 - unbelievable how time flies when you're looking back on it) and it still sounds fresh, to these ears at least. But Jazz-Fusion can sound a bit mixed up to me - being neither one nor the other. And on some cuts it works better than on others. I like the opening track "Chameleon" with its funky rythmn. It manages to never get boring during its entire 15 minutes or so. But I am not so sure about "Watermelon Man" with its African rythmns. "Sly" is much more jazzy than the other tracks, a 'cool' tune in my view. The last track "Vein Melter" sports a mellow groove that keeps you bopping along. The sound quality on this SACD is very good btw. People have also raved about the multi-channel mix of this SACD (I cannot judge that being a 2 channel guy only).

This a great album!!! I bought the CD out of curiousity when I heard it was being released on SACD and everyone I've played it for has loved it too. The sonics are, well...of worn out vinyl album standards--not a top-notch production number, but if you love jazz fusion, and GREAT hooks, beats and synths--this is the recording for you, if not the SACD for you.
