Creedence Clearwater Revival: Absolute Originals Hybrid SACD Box Set

My box set is #952 of 2500. Individual remastered discs where done in 2002 and 2003. Each discs liner notes where written in 2000. Box set released in 2004. Same box set available in LP format.

My review is based on fact the reader is already interested in CCR.

I spent $250.00 through AS on this set and worth every penny for a few reasons, one, that it is hybrid and can play in car, and two the sound quality is as good as I have ever heard, having owned the first 5 LP's and CD's.

Packaging: The actual box is intended to be used for packaging of LP's and discs. The disc box set has black foam square cut outs to fit the 7 discs. One large paper booklet. Lots of color and sepia tone photos. Pages devoted to liner notes of each 7 discs. Original recording notes and liner notes from Steve Hoffman, remastering engineer (with Kevin Gray). Liner and album notes from Ben Fong-Torres. Each individual disc has liner notes from either Ben Fong-Torres, Ed Ward, Joel Selvin (2), Dave Marsh, Robert Ghristgau, and Craig Werner. A very easy and accessible box set, with all the liner and production notes you could want.

Performance: CCR has stood the test of time and while there popularity started in the hey day of The Fillmore, and Family Dog, there music being political but brought to us via a southern blues/rock feel. The band is a fierce unit that thrives as one but, of course, John Fogerty is the focal point, singer and song writer. The first 5 albums are classic rock standards and I could listen to everyday, I never get tired of this music. The last two discs are the end game for CCR, while still delivering a few hits all the way to the bitter end. Note the three releases in 1969, and CCR was giving The Beatles a run for there money.
Creedence Clearwater Revival 1968
Bayou Country 1969
Green River 1969
Willy And The Poorboys 1969
Cosmo's Factory 1970
Pendulum 1970
Mardi Gras 1972

Stereo Sonics: Based on my home stereo listening. Superb. The best I have ever heard. All discs have the warm analog sound, great stereo separation, with the stereo sonics giving full room ambiance going beyond the outside realm of the right/left and sub.

If you are a CCR fan and wondering if you would be happy spending $250.00 I would say go for it as you will be more than happy as I have been.
