| stereo sonics: and again it´s astounding what fabulous records they made in ´59. Taking the age into account, it is a 5 star recording.

| This is an excellent jazz albums, the playing is excellent and consistent through all the tracks. That said, this recording feels its age, the lack of topend extension or even some top-end muddiness is clearly audible especially when compared to excellent recordings Yamamoto "Autumn in Seattle" or Misty.

The first of a number of studio albums, this one contains a lot of standards. The playing is beyond reproach - and in line with the other highlights from the Evans discography. I particularly like 'Someday My Prince Will Come', great slow intro that leads the trio into a swinging version of this tune. I must say that this Bill Evans disc sounds very nice indeed. It was my first Fantasy title - I have four now and I can certainly recommend them. A clear recording with the piano dead center. The difference between the CD layer and the SA-CD plays out according to familiar lines - more air, better decay, fuller sound, especially the bass has more body, the CD layer sounds 'pinched' in comparison. Night and Day? No, but clear enough. It's in the realm of 'instantly recognisable'. Is it as good as the Analogue Productions Evans discs? The APO Waltz For Debbie + SATVV discs have the bass left, the drums inside left and the piano right. Listening to them side by side and I think that the APO discs are just that little bit more natural or analog sounding. But comparison's are not that meaningful here since they are different recordings altogether. Well done Fantasy !
