First impressions . . . for me, this was my intro to SACD, back in '01 or '02. My family had just seen the flim, so the soundtrack was still fresh in our minds. But that did not prepare us for the sonic excellence of the multi-channel treat that awaits on this delightful OMPS. The discrete multi-channel mix delightfully places voices and sounds all over your five speakers, in a much more entertaining mix than that on the DVD. I suggest you watch the film, then spin this disc . . . and brace for shock! Without doubt, this album represents state-of-the-art for the SACD format.

I will only echo Dumbo12's stellar review and add that the Original Cast (NOT movie) recording of "A Chorus Line" is also available in 5.1 from SONY on SACD and it is equally stunning. Less Spectacular and available in stereo only SACD is the movie soundtrack to "My Fair Lady." But with all the musical theater treasures in the SONY and RCA catalogue, more should definitely be considered for release in the SACD format. IMO, SACD 5.1 is a no~brainer for Broadway classics!

If you like the music from this soundtrack add this SACD to your collection. This is a great example of multichannel done right. The sound quality is great and the multichannel track adds greatly to the enjoyment of the music/performances without being gimmicky.
