Performance:   Sonics:
There is no doubt this is a quality recording, but as for the actual music, I have a problem classifying it as bluegrass or even contemporary bluegrass. The style is unique and a few of the selections are very different. I have the 'Nickel Creek' album and really enjoy it, but I do not enjoy this album as much because it has such a unique style. The musicians are definitely talented, and the quality of recording is excellent, but they diverted from bluegrass for this album. I would be more inclined to say if you are expecting bluegrass when you buy this album, then you'll be disappointed. If you are wanting a mix of new age with modern country with bluegrass, they you might like this album. End recommendation ... find a place on the Internet where you can listen to samples before you buy this one: it is that unique.

Persoanlly, I really appreciate the unique style of this group and enjoy this album very much. However, I think the vocals should have been mixed a little differently from a sonic perspective. Somewhere around 7-10 kHz there is an abrasive edge. You can hear it strongly in the vocals when "S" sounds are made. And, as much as I like the music and the lyrics, it hurts my ears to listen for extended periods of time because of this high frequency edge. I have not experienced such a pronounced high-frequency edge in any of my other SACDs.

Allmusic.com lists this album as bluegrass. I wasn't sure what is was. It's probably best classified as contemporary bluegrass.

The performers are very, very young. Maybe, I'm getting old. Maybe both.

I like the music and quality of the sonics, but view the vocals as only OK. I rate the music produced by the instruments a 4.0, Vocals a 3, and Sonics a 5.0. Allmusic.com rates this as 4.5.
