Performance: Sonics: |
I bought this album because I was looking for some new music in the bluegrass genre. I noticed it was produced by Alison Krauss, so it must be good. I got lucky. I stumbled across a very good album. The technical recording is excellent, but there is really only one song "Around in my Head" that takes advantage of the multi-channel audio. The instruments are crisp and clear.
The female voice is very much akin to Alison Krauss, so if you like Alison's voice, you'll like hers. It took me a while to get used to the male vocals, but after listening to it a while, I find they grow on you. I now look forward to the male singers as much as the female.
There is a really good mix of songs on this album. All very much bluegrass, but without the 'hillbilly' sound.
The instrumentation is perfect, almost too perfect. Their fingers fly across the instrument in a flawless manor that can be acheived in a studio recording. Being a musician myself, I know how hard it is to be that good on an instrument and they are definitely good.
I give the album sonics only 4 stars because of the sound engineers didn't take full advantage of multi-channel. I give the performance a 5 because I go back to the CD again and again.
