...even BIS, claiming things never go out of print, but fact is even there discs have gone out of print. The Mendelssohn SACD discs or the Fagg Bach Organ series come to mind.

I assume you're referring to the single-layer stereo extended play SACDs released by BIS a few years ago. This is hardly a fair criticism, since these individual titles may be out-of-print (although copies of all are still available at perfectly reasonable prices) but the recordings themselves are most definitely still available, in many cases reissued under license by the Brilliant Classics label.

I thought he was referring to:

Mendelssohn: String Quintets - Mendelssohn String Quartet/Mann

which is one of their original DSD recordings done together with Sony-loaned equipment, ... which has gone out of print in the SACD DSD version. The CD version is still available.

It seems to me that some people will pay over the odds for quick delivery from a seller in their own country rather than wait for up to three weeks for imported stuff with the attendant risk of additional costs being incurred at import.

I tend to buy from UK, mostly via ebay but not because of the delivery delay. I'd behappy to buy from abroad, and even pay the tax and duty if applicable when it hits the UK. What i really hate is the carriers who charge someone in the USA to ship to me, then when it arrives here add a 10UKP admin charge (for the act of collecting VAT and duty) THEN add VAT and Duty on the lot.

If i buy something for, lets say £16 adding ten pound is areal nasty uplift.

And you cant get round it because the delvery man charges it n the doorstep before handing over the package. I''ve called the company and written on more than one occasion and they never reply. So arrogant.

Anybody who uses normal mail will get oders from me, if i find them on internet.

UK C & E are far more zealous nowadays and interception of over-limit packages happens more frequently. It is this rather than the habits of the carrier that is causing this problem. SACDs are becoming more expensive whilst the 'free' import limit has remained unchanged. Collecting SACDs is becoming an expensive pastime. My purchase rate is half of what it was last year and only 20% of three years ago.

You are certainly getting "fleeced" in the UK.

The worst I can report is that my credit card charges me a conversion rate when I order from CDJapan and AmazonUS charges me New York State sales tax on all my orders (save for 3rd party vendors) even though there is No Amazon US in New York State.

Deep Discount, another US mail order firm, OTOH, does NOT charge me NYS sales tax and offers free shipping over $25 and on occasion they have better deals than Amazon (just received $10 off a $50 order and the prices were already discounted rather heavily).

Furthermore, I refuse to pay extra for expedited shipping............let nature takes its course even though the mail is slow nowadays!

Only money talks here it seems, probably the result of over reliance on a bloated financial services sector. We have been known as "Treasure Island" for the past decade or so.

When all you've known is being stretched on the rack it's amazing how hard to give up it can be.

+1 and doesn't it really annoy that Amazon's One Click Free Shipping offers always default to "Super Expedited Hurricane Express" at $20 or whatever!

Keeps us Smart, I suppose.
