Finally something of interest from Esoteric. I have always preferred the '66 Boult Planets to the later one that is part of EMI's SACD releases.

Esoteric Japan will release 2 new SACD titles on December 1, 2012:
ESSE-90070 Mozart: Requiem in D Minor, K626 / Ave Verm Corpus, K618 - Patrizia Pace / Waltraud Meier / Frank Lopardo / James Morris / Schwedischer Rundfinkchor / Stockholmer Kammerchor / Berliner Philharmoniker / Riccardo Muti (EMI Classics, 1987) http://www.esoteric.jp/products/esoteric/essw90070/indexe.html
ESSE-90071 Holst: The Planets, Op. 32 - The Anbrosian Singers / New Philhamonia Orchestra / Sir Adrian Boult (EMI Classics, 1966) http://www.esoteric.jp/products/esoteric/essw90071/indexe.html
The price is JPY3300 (ca. USD42).
I think it would be a better idea to release the Mozart on April Fools' Day instead. Considering that it is most probably yet another 16/44.1 recording re- packaged at SUPER PREMIUM PRICE !

Maybe they simply think that audiophiles are fools, and will buy the "16/44.1 SACD" anyway.

This version of "The Planets" was one of the first, if not the first classical LP I purchased.
Does a consensus of opinion exist of it?
IIRC, it was was a good recording for it's time but better options may exist now.

I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger on this one.
I have a bit of a soft spot for this performance, it just feels right. I admit that the late 60s recording can be a bit dodgy and there are instances of sloppy ensemble. I own EMIs CD release from a few years back and it sounds fine, however I'm curious as to how much tweaking was done in the mastering process. Expensive as it may be I may be compelled to spend the $60+, costliest ever for a single CD for me, out of curiosity.
The release is December 1st in Japan, anyone know when these may be available from Esoteric dealers stateside?
