I would have bought this based on Polly's first statements about it till she tells us it is one of those hopefully rare recordings in which rear channels are used to put the listener in the center of the orchestra. What a waste! I want to be transported to a concert hall, not set into the orchestra! I will always refrain from purchasing anything like this and hope others will help communicate to the record companies that this is the wrong way to do things.

I'd just like to say that I find Tacet's tag of "Real Surround Sound" somewhat confusing as it's the least "real" aural picture one could experience in situ - interesting though and it really *does* clarify a lot of the textures despite its unreality.
Conversely, some recordings that I own in MCH that are purportedly fantastic from this point of view tend to shoot themselves in the foot IMHO. For example, in Mahler with the offstage instruments they are all too frequently presented as an out-of-focus blur whereas in my concert going experience, they would usually be heard emerging from one side of the hall.
Oh well, you can't have it all (yet)...

I've just round to listening to this set, and must say I agree completely with PN's assessment. It's an excellent modern instrument rendition, beautifully played, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly.
I've yet to experience the surround sound of this or the other Tacet SCO disc, also excellent, but in stereo it sounds very well indeed.
