Thommessen: Bull's Eye - Herresthal, Gupta      (5 of 6 found this review helpful)
  June 6, 2007

This is a rough translation of the above. Here is a completely accessible disc of contemporary music, easy access which avoids the hermetism, even masochism, of a number of contemporary compositions. Born in 1946, Olav Anton Thommessen is “one of the founders of the Information Centre of Music of ... more
Buxtehude: Membra Jesu Nostri - Netherlands Bach Society        (6 of 7 found this review helpful)
  June 6, 2007

A translation of the above: Dating back to 1680, the cycle of seven Cantatas “Membra Jesu Nostri” by the composer Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707) is a work of an undeniable originality, based on non-liturgical texts, forming part of a corpus of the Middle Ages in which is celebrated the passion of ... more

Translation of the above follows: Each new genesis of a disc of works by Sofia Gubaidulina is an event. Is the end nigh?
November 24, 2009
Is the end nigh? Not for the Unidisk series of DVD/SACD/CD players - these continue in production. The Majik and Klassik CD players and the Akurate CD/SACD player will be discontinued. While Linn DS has proved popular, at present these cannot stream surround files. I have checked with Linn. ... more
Is the end nigh?
November 23, 2009
The cheaper Linn, like the Genki, Classik or Mimik are quite good, the more expensive Linn is quite costly. (Very expensive Linn is beyond my pocket.) Apparently streaming flacs through the Majik DS is even better than playing a CD through an Ikemi - I have been invited to listen for myself but haven't been able to yet - partly due to this ... more
