..... But another item will surely be released on SACD: the next recording of the "Welte Mystery Series". It's a compilation of some of the best Welte rolls with popular music. The title will probably be "Swinging Welte - George Gershwin and others play holes into the rolls"......

Excellent news - I'll certainly get a copy.

Are you issuing Beethoven's 9th this year?

For me personally the biggest problem of SACD and maybe one reason for the vital posts in this thread is the conflict between stereo and "our" surround sound - much more than a conflict between SACD listeners and other listeners or between DSD and PCM. As far as I know the SACD standard was originally designed in stereo and later on the suggestion of Philips opened to surround sound. The conflict was obvious from the very beginning. Today there are several new players available that do not offer the surround sound option.

I do not want to say anything against stereo listeners! Have to leave now for a recording in Hannover/Germany. Can read your posts only next Thursday.

Tacet Hi

It is not always a matter of pleasing one set of customers and annoying others. Sometimes (albeit rarely) you can please most folk.

One of the core features of hybrid SACDs is that they contain dedicated stereo and MCH layers.

Your approach of placing a 'purist' stripped-down coincident stereo pair recording on the 2-ch layer and the full 'bells 'n whistles' MCH recording - with whatever effects best work in that format - on the MCH layer seems to me like a clever, innovative and pleasing appreoach, as well as one that exploits SACD's capabilities to the full.

I sometimes wish that stereo-only recordings had a 'minimalist' and 'multi-miked' layer like this...

Regards

As to your choice of format...........anything over 80 minutes will have to spill over onto a second SACD so if you're planning any more of those 312 minute multichannel discs you're talking boxed sets of SACDs or 1 DVD~Audio..........

Most everyone realizes that, but then again this is sa-cd.net

Eminently noted, Mr. Tokyo BN!

And EVERYONE does NOT know that a single sided DVD~A can hold 312+ minutes of music, smarty pants!

My two Tacet SACD's (Bouzignac and Die Rohre) have arrived! Absolutely divine! The Bouzingnac is a real find as totally unknown music for me. The sound in 2 channel is clear and warm with nice atmosphere. (I don't have mch.) The Stuttgart disc reminds me of the Decca 60's recordings of the same orchestra (which can't be bad) with lovely string sound. Also a well chosen programme. The performances are easy to listen to and free from the eccentricities sometimes apparent in 'conducted' versions. Thank you Andreas and those on this site who introduced them to me.

Dear Peter,

Beethoven 9 is a neverending story. Thank you and the others interested so much for the big patience! Of course we want to do it. Not only that we get many inquiries. What a shame to have 8 symphonies in Real Surround Sound and no. 9 is missing! However this year we plan another big orchestra recording which takes all means we can invest in one year. I'd be very happy to do it next year and make plans for it, but this is no promise. Anyway we want it definitely.

Apart from that I walked a little bit around on this site. There are obviously very different kind of posters. People discussing the delay between spot and main mics - ok, this is no secret. I know that topic well. But it seems to me rather special and most listeners do not know anything about that. There seem to be quite a lot professionals like sound engineers on sa-cd.net, right? That does not make it less interesting, on the contrary. In terms of aesthetical judgement a professional is not more right or less right than a "simple" customer.

A couple of weeks ago I attended the ICSA in Detmold. ICSA means International Congress for Spatial Audio. This congress was more intended for 3D recordings which require top speakers. Yet I was invited to present our (2D-)recordings to the professional audience. I played Beethoven symphonies (SACD S149), Peter and Carnival (SACD S114) and other music. It was very curious: My presentation was attended by many people. Most of them must have liked the sound. Because otherwise they would have criticized certainly. Or they did not dare to criticize which would be astonishing: Some other presenters received pretty bad reviews by the audience. Somehow I had a feeling like here: Professionals notice what I am doing, if they don't like it they can't find any severe argument against it, I believe most of them like it (maybe wrong), but they do not make recordings like that for their own! The only one is Morton Lindberg. Strange.

Next occasion to meet me personally is in Stockholm: I have been invited to present Real Surround Sound on February 11 and 12 in the Stockholm Sheraton Hotel. Everybody is welcome! Next opportunity High End Show in Munich May 3 to 6.

Thanks to this thread, I purchased one of the Vivaldis. I believe it is in "Real Surround" on SACD. I thought it had a superb sound. I will definitely look into more TACET releases as time and budget allow.

This is good news! I am glad the thread provided some useful info in spite of inspiring some awful posts.

Andreas,

I did see the announcement of the release of this recording with Medieval music, but RBCD only. Is there more to come in surround ? I hope for the best.
