Yes a new tape formulation product introduced back then with problems was realized after and has gotten worse with age.

It still sounds wonderful, especially in 5.1 surround, something LP fell short on.

I guess in 5.1 welcome to the machine would be a thrill, for very serious listening to Floyd I always use Pulse on vinyl at concert levels , thus will put your hair up .

I'm sure with the poor condition of the master tapes we won't be seeing a 5.1 mix of The Wall for years.

That said, they did a wonderful job with the tape restoration and the SA-CD pressing. I'm continually amazed WYWH sounds as good as it does, WRT this.
However, it does seem that you have more than a few system anomalies that need sorting. On my system, WYWH sounds as if it were recorded yesterday direct to DSD. I have no issues with it at all.
This is as good as it gets, mate.
EDIT: DSOTM pales in comparison.

Even witnessing Floyd live you don't have rear and side speakers being used for certain effects only The original Dark Side of The Moon tour is still vivid in my memory , no one at this time were using surround sound for effects, circa 1973 , way ,way a head of its time.
The Wall definitely would have been a better candidate for 5.1 then WYWH ,however with damaged master tapes much is lost from the original sound then on top of this restoration to what effect has this on sonics from the original sound?
Two or three other members here did not care for this reissue which I am in agreement with , speaking for myself the master tape issues was primarily the reason so.
Other bands music were effected from the same issues ,Pink Floyd weren't alone,..

You mean to tell me you aren't listening in 5.1? That's what this release is all about.

Just recently picked up a copy of the Immersion box set for the original Quad mix. I'll have to listen for the missing piano. It's a shame they weren't able to put together a 5.1 mix for the Immersion box set of The Wall. I guess there is some trouble with its tapes (and possibly with The Final Cut's too). But, Animals's tapes could to be in good condition. And...The band members' written comments discussing their long experience with surround sound and their positive views on 5.1 really make the case for MORE effort to be made to release many more Pink Floyd albums in 5.1
And... for us to experience their music in surround sound!!!!
P.S. Thanks for the space station video!! Loved it!! Not only the views of the Earth and stars but also the amazing quality of the video is phenomenal. :)

The gap-less transition from "Have A Cigar" to the title track "Wish You Were Here" is stunning in multi-channel. It's the part where the cheap, tinny sounding radio is being tuned to various stations on the right rear channel. Then the acoustic guitar comes on and the listener starts playing along with it on the front channels.
This part falls flat in 2-channel mode.
