Maybe they are simply aware that there are more than 7000 SACDs released and counting and only 20 or so Blu-ray audio titles... Anyway, the chances of Blu-ray dominating as a music format in the world of ever more popular downloads, are far fetched IMO.

PS Sony isn't the only company including SACD playback on their blu-ray/universal players http://ps3sacd.com/sacd_bd_players.html

Odd is it not that Naxos having ditched SACD early on are now producing PCM audio only Blu Ray discs. A confused marketing philosophy - for sure they are not market makers...

"Seriously, Sony have had some very bad years financially and of course there were the rumours of interest from Apple Corp not so long ago. Figures published yesterday reveal another huge loss over the past year. Even for a mighty corporation like Sony such losses must be unsustainable so drastic cuts in operations seem inevitable.

One could not bet with confidence on SACD related activity surviving a cull."

Sony has a lot of problems, unfortunately some of which are of their own making.

I once sent them a list of suggestions on improving the PSP, such as including software that emulates a graphic calculator, making it a device that high school kids would not only want, but would have an excuse to force their parents to purchase one since in many (if not most) US and Canadian high schools having a graphic calculator is required.

Sony sent my letter back to me attached to a six page legal document that suggested that I might be trying to extort money from them, that they can not accept any outside... sorry, I can't recall the exact wording they used, but it amounted to something far and away from what I was trying to do. Take a piece of hardware given to me for Christmas, and one day turn it into something that I might be able to use.

I have made it a point to never purchase Sony stock since then, and only purchase Sony equipment if I have to.

I fear I may have to... I am currently debating if I should purchase a BDP-S370, so I can play blu rays, and mkv files via my network, and listen to SACD's.

I don't really need it for any of the above except the SACD's, and currently I only have one. (Steely Dan, Aja) I have others on my list, but I have to wonder if it will be worth it if not many titles will be released.

I wonder if it will play 24/96 or 24/192 files over the network?

Sounds like you'd be better off with a Universal Player (like the OPPO) which plays basically every format (the new ones even do 3D via HDMI 1.4).

Sony does have reliability issues (i've had many problems with SONY products) and it seems that paranoid letter they sent you for your suggestion reeks of madness on their part.

One cannot question that SONY has initiated many innovations and has launched a number of formats...and as we all know, RBCD wasn't a great idea in the first place but SACD was and is and there are a number of new titles being released, both stereo and multichannel in the SACD format (more than usual, lately), so take my advice and invest in a Universal Player and you'll have it all.

This post is in response to Rammiepie's post in /showthread/88147/88173/y#88173

Steven Harrison suggested Rammiepie start a SONY thread, I found this one and think it's appropriate.

I want to say I abhor most deluxe editions, I want recordings reissued with the songs and order as they were originally released.

The worst mishmash I have yet seen is the 12-disc set of the Goldberg Variations /showthread/88147//y?page=first , a piece which is less than 80 minutes and fits comfortable on one SACD. Why not release the best sounding version with the best performance. Why is Sony wasting SACD pressing capability on this when there are so many rock and jazz recordings Sony has not released on SACD? Many of them Quadraphonic and Multichannel!

The rock and jazz music Sony has in both Quadraphonic and multichannel is huge. The Sony equipment and music divisions are run as separate companies, however in the case of SACD, there should have been a mandate from them to cooperate and work together.

BMG was quite happy with the sales of the RCA Living Stereo SACDs, yet when Sony bought BMG they discontinued the RCA Living Stereo SACD project. Why?

Why does my newspaper come wrapped in unnecessary plastic, on sunny days?

To protect it from bird droppings, maybe!

Remastered using the original two-track analog tapes to capture the classic sound of the original LPs.
I only have one title from the "CTI Records 40th Anniversary Series," Pure Desmond.. and I'm quite impressed with the quality of the mastering ..Mark Wilder and Maria Triana have done a great job. It's a real shame that this series (released in the US) were not released as Hybrid discs.. I don't think Sony Music Japan have the licence to release CTI titles in Japan though.

Also, Sony's Eighty-Eight's titles are 'few and far between."

I would have thought the momentum created by the Universal SHM-SACD releases would have stimulated a greater number Sony Music SACDs.
Maybe Sony Japan have something to do with with the extensive green shm-sacd release program and resources are tired up with that.
Lets not forget last year's tragic earthquake.

Because there's demand? I would absolutely purchase the "A State of Wonder" set with 3 discs again in SACD (well, the third disc of outtakes and interviews could stay on RBCD)...it's the non-SACD filler for Glenn Gould Obsessives that makes this set excessive.
