No TRUER words were ever spoken. AD NAUSEUM exemplifies Sony's absolute neglect of releasing the plethora of back catalog titles which ironically have all been pretty much DSD~remastered.

The Glenn Gould 'Immersion' boxed set will ONLY appeal to a relatively small number of completists and all that preparation, et alia, could've been applied to releasing NEW titles in the SACD format.

And we are to believe that SONY has a renewed interest in high rez releases? You'd certainly fool me.

I think you are confusing Sony Japan with Sony Mass Market.

A moot point at this juncture in time, stvnharr.

SONY has NOT, repeat NOT, been kind to the SACD market whether domestic or international since its initial format launch in 1999.

Owning the RCA catalog, as well, and having (supposedly) DSD~remastered their entire treasure trove of recordings, just how many SACDs have they released in the last five years.......

How many POP/ROCK/JAZZ titles have they released, as well. If it were not for MoFi & AP.......... almost NONE.

That BIS, Chandos, Praga Digital etc. seem to release regularly, isn't it a shame that SONY has been neglectful to further nuture the format which they initiated way back when.

This format needs new titles for its ultimate survival and SONY has been idiotic........OT, but relevant.....SONY leased two Emerson, Lake and Palmer titles from another label.....paid Steve Wilson to remaster both in 5.1 and then releases them as 2 RBCDs and a DVD with 5.1 LOSSY DTS audio instead of releasing them as SACDs (both titles to be released July 23rd).......... Nonsensical, IMO!

Go on all you want, but this thread is about a special release from Sony Japan. If you want a Sony thread, start one.

Mega disc sets rarely big sellers. A State of Wonder will suffice for most. Do Mega buyers get a collector anime figure of Glenn with gloves on and lots of little pill bottles?
Sorry, that was tasteless.

Rammiepie my response is in the Sony thread as Steven Harrison suggested. /showthread/71506/88177#88177

Why a 12 disc set for a work that fits on a single disc? (3SACD Hybrid, 2DVD, 7Blu-spec CD) Instead why not pick the best sounding version with the best performance and release it as a Blu-spec SACD? Then combine the 2 DVDs into a single DVD (DVD 1 is 58 minutes and DVD 2 is 65 minutes)?

Pardon me for attempting an answer, but you should write Sony Japan as they are the ones who decided what to put in the set.
Also there is no such entity as a blu-spec sacd AFAIK, only blu-spec cd, a Sony Japan exclusive.

So, stvnharr, can we expect an 'exhaustive' review of the upcoming 12 disc Glenn Gould "retrospective" of the Goldberg Variations?

Can't wait..............

And why not a 13th disc: an isolated track SACD of Glenn Gould's humming the entire 80 minute Goldberg Variations........

Tasty!
