Discussion: Bach: Motets - Suzuki

Had listened to only a few recordings of the Motets, I'm not going to review this disc. Though not a cantata series collector, I do have a few BCJ/Suzuki CD/SACDs, this is one of my most "return to" disc. I'm surprised no review or even discussion about this wonderful disc!

Btw, it has won some awards for BIS, including
German Record Critics’ Annual Award
Diapason d’Or de l’Année 2010

I'd award it 2010 best album cover award! This is (one of) the best album cover(s) in my entire collection. The other might be Siegmund von Hausegger: Natursymphonie - Rasilainen

Perhaps, because there is no bass drum.:-)

Beautiful on both counts. Love the "ESU." Speaking of BIS and album covers, I get a kick out of this one:

Brahms: Cello Sonatas Nos. 1 & 2 - Pöntinen, Thedéen

But my favorite BIS cover is to the Suzuki Bach Ouvertures. Caro Mitis and the Jordi Savall label also have great cover art.

Of course the worst album cover of all time is clearly

Love and Madness - Johannette Zomer, Bart Schneemann

Rivaled only by

Can: Ege Bamyasi

Ye, the Suzuki Bach Ouvertures boxset cover is a great one too.
OT a bit, the Suzuki Cantata serie covers are too "monotonic"...

This recording just received the BBC classical awards 2011 in choral category.
