Eighty-Eight's (as in: this label belongs to Producer Yasohachi "88" Itoh) is part of Sony. Itoh's profile at Village Records says, "In 1978, he joined CBS/SONY, where he oversaw foreign jazz artists including Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and Weather Report. He also produced domestic jazz/fusion ... more
Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring, Petrushka - Litton        (10 of 19 found this review helpful)

This is not the volcanic performance of the Rite I was hoping for. Extra bass can't make up for a lack of brutality. The percussionist (actually, I think there should be two of them, but I'll treat them as one) is a great disappointment. He's almost dainty. Yes, the bass is deep, yes it's loud. But ... more
Mahler: Symphony No. 5 - Jansons        (3 of 7 found this review helpful)

There's a great Triple Concerto conducted by Fricsay though not as yet on SACD: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006ZFQN0/ref=dm_dp_cdp?ie=UTF8&s=music ... more
Discussion: Brahms, Tchaikovsky: Violin Concertos - Heifetz/Reiner

Mariss Jansons conducts a wonderful Brahms Violin Concerto with Julian Rachlin on violin. At least in the second and third movements it beats Heifetz and Oistrakh in my opinion ... more
SACD Why bother?
April 24, 2012
After switching to an apple computer, iTunes got me downloading music for convenience' sake, but music just doesn't sound as good. Definitely give SACD a try. There are just too many classic recordings that aren't available on SACD yet (or cost an arm and a leg) otherwise I would do all my listening on SACD. ... more
