We checked this upon reading the comments and found that in fact it is a 48 kHz 24 bit recording. We will correct in the next print run. Since 95% of our recordings are done by Polyhymnia who always record in DSD this slipped our attention.

Best, PentaMan

Mr Bessels,

Can you also check on the Herreweghe Beethoven cycle? The disc with symphonies 1&3 appears to be sourced from 44.1 or 48 khz PCM as well. I can post a spectrograph image if you'd like. I haven't checked the other discs in that series.

Incidentally, there's really nothing to correct in the next print run as nowhere on the Albrecht/Dukas disc, case or booklet does it mention that the disc was recorded in DSD. It does still mention that on the description at your website but that should be pretty easily updated. Stephen has already updated it here.

Also, I hope you don't think I'm being overly critical of Pentatone by reporting the info about the Dukas and now the Beethoven discs. I've purchased almost 40 Pentatone SACD's and Pentatone is one of my favorite record labels. I do, however, take recording provenance into account (along with many other things) when purchasing SACD's as I'm sure you know many do which must be why you note on your site which discs are DSD sourced. If you could update your site with the correct provenance of all the recordings it would be greatly appreciated as I would like to have this information before purchasing.

Regards,

Rick

2011 release planning is on their website now. Looking forward to the Pletnev Tchaikovsky releases and the Sa Chen recording.

Not one interesting recording. Sheherazade with Carlo Ponti - is this some kind of joke? Tchaikovsky from Pletnev again, what an incredible lack of imagination. I am very disappointed.

----------------------------------------------------

I have to say - what a thrilling bunch of recordings, including by the looks of it 2 full Wagner operas (1 of which not currently on SACD)!

The Pletnev discs should be compulsory purchases if past experience of his Tchaikovsky is anything to go by (I do wonder, given how recently he recorded these with DGG, whether these are surround recordings from that stable under license...) as should pretty much all the RQR's from Leipzig, the discs from Steinbacher & Helmchen and Herreweghe's Schubert. I think there is one duff disc that can be spotted a mile off but I hope to be proved wrong (it's only about another 70 minutes of my wasted if not!)

At first glance, I wasn't that excited. But the Janowski's will probably be compulsory purchases for me and the Bruckner 1st implies we might be getting the whole cycle?! I don't need another Organ symphony, but I'll want it - especially coupled with the d'Indy!

The Steinbacher Brahms will be another must have. And though I too am surprised about the Pletnev Tchaikovsky, I liked his DG cycle. Of course I was most impressed with the earlier Symphonies, so I hope this is just the start.

I haven't gotten into the Herreweghe Beethoven, but the Schubert is more interesting to me, especially if he's doing the earlier ones.

1) You said it! I was hoping -- I was almost praying, frankly -- for a new Brahms Symphony cycle, and here it is. But the Parsifal is what I think I'm most excited about. Janowski did a good job with the Ring, and I think we can expect good things from him where Wagner is concerned.

2) Is the duff disc Don Giovanni/Barber of Seville for wind?

Me neither, but I like what he does with the 6th.

Eh, mostly core repertoire.

I can pass.

I really wish Pentatone would (or could) release the EMI quad catalogue.

I've said it a million times: Muti's "Aida" and Stokowksi's EMI quad recordings please.

Seth, DTS Entertainment released a 3 disc QUAD set of Muti's Aida which sounds wonderful (I paid $13 for the three disc set in a close~out special deal).

I know it's not SACD but in case your "wish" doesn't come true, this is the next best thing

I extensively treat my discs and damper them and this DTS recording sounds extraordinary (especially for $13 US).

You and me both. Now that catalog has a couple of Tchaikovsky cycles I could actually get excited about. Well one can hope that the termination of the fraud case against Citibank will spur action to sell EMI's assets to someone who has an idea of their (musical) value. The present set of bean counters at EMI will never "get it".
