Um ... well ... I was just about to buy this .. and had a quick listen at JPC. I am hesitant to disparage based on an online sample .. but frankly her intonation appears absolutely woeful. Track 5 or 10 or 14, for instance. All over the place/// ?????????????

I now have this disc and I am much more concerned about the glutinous recording than Ms Watts intonation. I will play it few more times but I don't think it is a keeper.

Wish i'd seen a review before i bought, as this is very mediocre. The sound is, as jonty says, a bit glutinous but its also sharp one minute, soggy the next. And as for intonation, Miss Watts' is a bit of a scooper (and a mild hooter) - she doesn't articulate a lot of the time, just settles for wash of sound. And her German seems far from idiomatic (not that I can talk).

The disc is better than a 2 star but not better than a three. I'll keep it until Suzuki or Kujiken give us 199.

What it does do is remind us in 199 just how brilliant Lorraine H-L was. And she was recorded in 16 bit for RBCD. What a loss.

It is a shame about this disc. Ms Watts is rather good in Linn's recording of Arne's Artaxexes and that is very well recorded.

Jonty, the Arne is for play tomorrow. Will listen out for her.

they should have released Lucy Crowe's Handel recording on SACD. Not this one.
