It may be a bit early but what stands out?

Tiny Island definately stands out for me, but also the Herbie Mann Eastern European Roots and Caminho de Casa. I'm very pleased I bought all of these.

This will probably seem a little strange to some, but I am not entirely certain that all of my favorites necessarily fall into the "best of" category.

Three that I think do fit both without qualification are:

Bartok: Violin Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 - Steinbacher, Janowski

Janacek: Complete String Quartets - Mandelring Quartett

Schumann: Piano Quartet, Piano Quintet - Mandelring Quartett

While

Dukas, Ravel, Koechlin - Albrecht

Bartok, Kodaly, Ligeti - Foster

Smetana: String Quartets Nos. 1 & 2 - Bennewitz Quartet

fall into the favorites category, but not, I think, quite make the "best of" category.

There are others in the best of category that while I enjoy them very much, do not quite make the "favorites" category.

The complete Schumann symphonies on the CPO label featuring the Robert Schumann Philharmonic conducted by Frank Beerman really stood out for me.

The recordings were made in Dresden's beautiful sounding Lukaskirche (incidently the same location for another of my favorite recordings...Brahms Symphonies featuring the Dresden State Orchestra conducted by Kurt Sanderling).

I can't praise the Schumann recordings highly enough. I have collected a dozen complete sets of the Schumann Symphonies...Bernstein, Haitink, Sawallish, Kubelik, Konswtichny, Donanyhi, Gardiner, Norrington, Eschenbach, Zinman, Sinopli, Vonk...and this is the most beautiful, the most realistic sounding, the most enjoyable that I have come across.

In SACD stereo or multichannel these are glorious, goose bump-inducing recordings...the best seats in the Lukaskirche.

Schumann: Symphonies Nos. 1-4 - Frank Beermann

Pleased to have been of service. I really hope you'll like it, but obviously it's all a matter of personal taste - but I do find it beautifully recorded also.
